Monster Island, the Asylum’s 2019 mockbuster, came out around the same date as Godzilla King of the Monsters. The film tells the story of an island named after the island, where a monster lives.


Due to the film's low budget (equivalent to a large family meal), the filmmakers (link to info) decided to focus only on a small number of people and to shoot most of the scenes involving the cast's A listers during lunch. The Asylum is not a kaiju film.
